Honoring Peace on Earth

IYCD welcomes Debra Ann back to Denver in celebration and honor of Earth Day.  Join her as she seeks to integrate the teachings and practice of yoga within how we interact within the world.  

 

As followers of the yogic path we must ask ourselves: What is the yogic meaning of peace and honoring and how does one move from concept to integrated honest experience? 

 

There is a simplicity and harmony we can achieve through the development of a sharpened clarity of mind and the cultivation of positive qualities.

 

In this weekend intensive, study, contemplate, practice asana, pranayama and sitting meditation.

Kevin Durkin
Kevin Durkin has practiced yoga since 1976 and has taught since 1991. He is an intermediate certified Iyengar yoga teacher. He has been to India five times to study with B.K.S., Geeta, and Prashant Iyengar. He has assisted in the medical classes at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India, and studied at the International Iyengar Institutes in New York, Manchester, Zurich, London and Paris. In celebration of the Silver jubilee of the Iyengar Institute, he was one of the 65 Americans invited to the Yoga Teachers Guidance Course taught by B.K.S. Iyengar in January, 2000.

Juliet Sherwood
Juliet Sherwood moved into the Iyengar discipline while teaching yoga in Los Angeles before moving to Denver in 1998. She studied here under Nancy Crum Stechert and Leslie Bradley and was Iyengar-certified in 2001. She has studied with BKS Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar and most of the highest level Iyengar teachers in the United States, in France with Faeq Biria and in India with Swati and Rajiv Chanchani. Her early training was in the Sivananda tradition from which she received certification in 1993 in Kerala, India. Study of Hindu and Buddhist literature, Ayurveda and meditation lead her further along her chosen path. Juliet holds a bachelor’s degree in French from the University of North Carolina and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado. She is a graduate of the NationalOutdoorLeadershipSchool and is a certified ski instructor. She lived and taught English in Kathmandu, Nepal and has trekked extensively in Nepal’s Himalayas. A grandmother, Juliet advocates lifetime yoga practice for a healthy body, mind and spirit.

Consolidation of the basic poses with increased study of the beginning inversions.
Craig Kurtz
Craig's interest in yoga began in 1971, a self taught teenager; studying out of books in South Dakota. He was attracted to the concept of a practice that joined and utilized the body, mind and spirit. Craig was drawn to the Iyengar disipline of yoga after a severe car accident in 1983. Iyengar Yoga helped him rehabilitate his back, manage chronic pain and reconnect with his soul. Craig is deeply grateful to B.K.S. Iyengar, all his teachers and students for helping to shine the light on the path of Self-discovery, healing and peace of mind. Craig is a Certified Junior Level 3 Iyengar instructor. His personal practice continues in with several Senior teachers throught the world.

Intermediate poses introduced to complement the firm foundation created through the understanding of the basic poses. Minimum 2 years of Iyengar yoga practice recommended.
Sawyer Ward
Years studied: 40+
Iyengar Certified: Intermediate level
Studied with: Iyengar family (four trips to Pune, attended all U.S. conventions since 1990), Mary Dunn, Dean and Rebecca Lerner, Manouso Manos, George Purvis, Gloria Goldberg, the Chanchannis and Devki Desai.
Teaches: Level 1 and All Levels (on staff), substitutes for level 1 through level 3.
Method:
Began studying yoga philosophy and the lives of great yogis as a teenager. In early 1980's got a copy of "Light on Yoga", and became devoted to Mr. Iyengar and started to teach his method.
Owned and operated Ruidoso Yoga for 26 years in New Mexico.
My philosophy:
Yoga is a complete discipline, an art and science, enabling a human being to obtain health of the body, calmness and clarity of the mind and joy and oneness with the Soul.
I am dedicated to the Iyengar system and to helping others reap the benefits of this most auspicious method. I find great joy in the practice of Bhakti yoga, the yoga of devotion and in mantra yoga, chanting and singing with others.

Angie Woyar
Angie Woyar is an Intermediate Junior I certified Iyengar yoga teacher in Denver, CO. She has been a student of yoga for 17 years and has studied Iyengar Yoga in Denver for 12 years. She studies yearly with Devki Desai, Patricia Walden, Manouso Manos, Dean Lerner. She also finds it important to attend classes taught by her fellow teachers at her current home base, The Iyengar Yoga Center of Denver and in Boulder at Yoga Shala. She took her first trip to Pune, India in 2013 and a second in August of 2016 to deepen her practice and understanding of the Iyengar method from the source.

Angie’s teaching is a combination of compassion, precision, and a light-heartedness intended to make every person interested in deepening there understanding of yoga more attainable. Her intention of every session is to bridge the gap between perfection of asana and also finding contentment with where we are at, helping Yoga practitioners understand there limits and there limitlessness! With the proper use of yoga props, she teaches an age range of 20-93. She not only finds inspiration from her students and her practice, but also her love of music, animals, reading, outdoors, and cooking to be therapeutic as well.

Brad Denning
Brad has been practicing Iyengar’s Hatha yoga for 8 years. He initially
sought a yoga practice to rehabilitate various injuries and became impressed
with the holistic results from the precise alignment, sequencing, and philosophy offered in the Iyengar tradition. He greatly values the opportunities he has
had to study with the many local Iyengar teachers, including Craig Kurtz, Leslie Bradley, Jonathan Dickstein - and those in the greater Iyengar yoga community (Manouso Manos, Gloria Goldberg, Gabriella Giubilaro, Nancy Stechert). He is inspired by their sacrifices and grateful for the inspiration and guidance of
fellow students. He is currently working toward his Iyengar certification and
is eager to share this practice with others.

Josh Warren
Left brain and right brain.  Hatha. Balance. When not teaching yoga, Josh works as an engineer.  He is excited to share his love of Iyengar yoga with his students.  
 
Josh began studying yoga in 2001. Over the course of several years, his yoga path has led him through many styles, including Ashtanga, Kundalini and Vinyasa yoga, and eventually to Iyengar yoga in 2007. As a practicing bridge engineer, he appreciates the methodical attention to detail of the method. He became certified to teach the Iyengar method in 2013 and just recently spent 6 months in India studying with the Iyengar family and Rajiv and Swati Chanchani. Josh is grateful for all teachers, past, present and future, who have spread the wisdom of yoga to those on the path of awakening and self-realization.
